I’m Tim McKay.
I’m a professional football player with the Washington Commanders, as well as an investor and advisor who is passionate about startups, emerging technologies, and business strategy.
While my career began on the football field, my interests have always extended beyond sports. I earned both my Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and my Master’s degree in Marketing Analytics from NC State University, where I developed a strong interest in entrepreneurship, growth strategy, and how great companies are built.
Today, I spend much of my time learning from founders, operators, and investors while working with a handful of early-stage companies on strategic initiatives, partnerships, and commercial growth. I enjoy meeting ambitious people, learning about new ideas, and contributing wherever I can.
Football and business have more in common than many people realize. Both require preparation, discipline, teamwork, grit and the ability to adapt when circumstances change. Those lessons continue to shape how I approach investing, problem-solving, and every opportunity I pursue.
I’m particularly interested in early-stage companies across sports technology, AI, consumer products, enterprise software, and emerging technologies. I’m drawn to founders solving meaningful problems and building businesses with the potential to make a lasting impact.
This website is where I share what I’m learning through investing, advising, and building relationships within the startup ecosystem. You’ll find thoughts on venture capital, leadership, business strategy, and the lessons I’ve taken from competing at the highest level of professional sports.
Whether you’re building a company, exploring a partnership, or simply enjoy talking about startups and business, I’d be glad to connect.
